You made and impression

Prior to your deployment I was a boy of only 7 or 8 years old. You were a friend of my sister and had come by for a visit, but you also found time to interact with my younger brother and me. You "pulled a quarter" from behind our ears, which left us totally awestruck. You also dribbled lighter fluid on your arm and lit your arm on fire, and it didn't even hurt you! I sure was impressed, even if it probably wasn't the smartest thing to do. I also recall the very sad reaction by my family when that phone call brought the terrible news that you had been killed in Vietnam. I was a little kid and really found it hard to understand, but I want you to know that over the 55 years since, you have been in my thoughts many times. I'll always remember you as a good guy who spent a little time making two little boys smile. May you rest in peace, Jim.

Memorial at Salem High School

I came across a monument with his remembrance. It is behind the school near a basketball court. Very poignant to think of his sacrifice just out of high school. Probably a shock to his young classmates.
