Brother

We weren't very good siblings as children, but I feel we would have become good friends had you come home from Vietnam. This wall is truly "The Wall that Heals". I'm sorry that your name is on there and that you never got to get married or have a family, but I'm proud that you served our country with honor.
Thank you for your service to this great country.

cousin Glenn

I remember my sister and I coming to Aunt Elsie and Uncle Fred's home. I spent most of my time with your sister Glenda and My Sister Shirley was more your age and hung around with you. I just want to thank for your service in the Navy and hope you are enjoying your time with your Mom and Dad in heaven.

Childhood friends

Glen I am writing this to you. We were friends in High School and did some running around together. We graduated in 66 and I lost track of you. I enlisted in the Air Force in 67. My parents informed me of you death in 69. I served my tour in Vietnam in 70-71. I have thought of you hundreds of times over the last 45 plus years. I still don't understand why you had to pay the ultimate sacrifice and I have not honored or paid my respects to you. I have not been to "The Wall" because your name is there. I have struggled with the emotions of seeing your name. In about 2 weeks "The Traveling Wall" will come to Watseka. As part of my duties as an elected official of Watseka I am expected to be part of the daily ceremonies at "The Traveling Wall". I am not sure I can do it because you are there. I feel the emotions and tears welling inside me as I write this. I am coming to terms with myself and on this, the day after Memorial Day, 2015 I decided to write this. Glen, my childhood friend, I will promise to do my best to pay my respects to the ultimate sacrifice you made and to honor that sacrifice you made doing what your country asked you to do. I am sorry this took so long to write as I have struggled since 69 to come to terms with your death because of our friendship. Bob Harwood Watseka, IL

shipmates

I served with Glen on the YRBM 16. We did night patrols. He was on the Boston whaler and I was on the mike boat/mine sweeper. He was a very good friend and he always talked about going home, marrying his girlfriend and buying a sports car.
