One man's effect on anothers life
I was Marvin's Platoon Leader. I remember that Marvin had a portable 45mm record player that he carried around in additon to the Platoon's radio. Most of his 45mm records were warped after sitting out in the sun one day - the only one not damaged was Otis Reading's "Dock of the Bay". I held Marvin in my arms when he died, and to this day, I cannot listen to "Dock of the Bay" with tears filling my eyes and running down my face. I am neve ashamed of this reaction. I have used my friendship with Marvin ever since my tour in Viet Nam as a stimulous to doing eveything I have an opportunity to do in life........I try and fill my life with extra activities to some how make up for the activities the Vietnam took away from Marvin. Marvin was an honorable man and Marine, and I am proud to have been his friend. Lieutenant Frederick Ryan Leenerts, USMCR
