Ground Casualty

CPL Lee M. Barger was a driver serving with Wing Equipment and Repair Squadron 17 (WERS-17), Marine Wing Support Group 17 (MWSG-17), 1st Marine Aircraft Wing, Third Marine Amphibious Force. In the middle of May 1968, Barger was awaiting orders to return home from Vietnam after completing his tour of duty plus two six-month extensions. On the 22nd, he was in his living quarters at Da Nang Airbase in Quang Nam Province, RVN, when an accidental shooting incident occurred. Reportedly, a firearm he was handling inadvertently discharged, striking him in the chest. Barger was fatally injured in the incident. [Taken from coffeltdatabase.org and “S.A.
