Remembering An American Hero

Dear PFC Derald Joe Hood, sir

As an American, I would like to thank you for your service and for your sacrifice made on behalf of our wonderful country. The youth of today could gain much by learning of heroes such as yourself, men and women whose courage and heart can never be questioned.

May God allow you to read this, and may He allow me to someday shake your hand when I get to Heaven to personally thank you. May he also allow my father to find you and shake your hand now to say thank you; for America, and for those who love you.

With respect, and the best salute a civilian can muster for you, Sir

Curt Carter

STILL MY FRIEND

DERALD,AND I WERE IN THE SAME BASIC TRAINING CO. AT FORT DIX.

WE WERE IN THE SAME SQUAD, AND EVEN SHARED THE SAME ROOM.

AFTER THAT WE WERE SEPERATED, AND I DID NOT SEE HIM AGAIN UNTIL I ARRIVED IN VIETNAM. I WAS ASSIGNED TO THE FIRST WOLFHOUNDS 25TH INF DIV, AND SO WAS HE, BUT A DIFFERENT CO.
WHEN WE MET THERE, WE HAD A GREAT TIME TALKING AND TRYING TO CATCH UP ON THE LATEST NEWS ABOUT OUR BASIC TRAINING FRIENDS.
I WAS DEVASTATED TO LEARN A SHORT TIME LATER HE WAS KIA.

THERE ARE TRULY A HANDFUL OF PEOPLE, YOU MEET IN A LIFETIME THAT INSPIRE, GOODNESS AND A JOY FOR LIFE THE WAY MY FRIEND HOOD DID, AND STILL DOES. SOMETIMES IF YOU ARE FEELING DOWN, REMEMBER, HE WOULD BE THE FIRST TO TELL YOU TO CHEER UP.
I WILL SEE YOU AGAIN SOMEDAY BUDDY.

STILL YOUR FRIEND
JOE PADILLA
