Remembering An American Hero

Dear PSGT Robert Erie Holeyfield, sir

As an American, I would like to thank you for your service and for your sacrifice made on behalf of our wonderful country. The youth of today could gain much by learning of heroes such as yourself, men and women whose courage and heart can never be questioned.

May God allow you to read this, and may He allow me to someday shake your hand when I get to Heaven to personally thank you. May he also allow my father to find you and shake your hand now to say thank you; for America, and for those who love you.

With respect, and the best salute a civilian can muster for you, Sir

Curt Carter

A leader of Men second to none 1968

Recently i called Doc Lowe and we talked about that day in the Infamous A SHAU VALLEY, he was the one that held Holeyfield in his final minutes , we agreed that we still carried a deep pain from those years, Bell, Deitcher, Raintree, and many more would follow in the coming months, In May there was over 2000 KIA throughout VIETNAM, In late June i flew out of the Valley thinking i was leaving behind brothers that would always be a part of me, the year had been the worst year of my life and i survived because of Men like Holeyfield and the 3 others Platoons Sergeants of Charlie Company, i recalled when the 4 of them would meet and discuss operation tactic, My platoon Sgt Fernandes and he was close career Soldiers .
