Thank You

Dear PFC Walter Heyer, Thank you for your service as an Infantryman. Your 70th birthday was this month, happy birthday. It was just Memorial Day when we honor you. I could not post then because this site was overwhelmed. Please watch over the USA, it still needs your courage. Rest in peace with the angels.

Remembering An American Hero

Dear PFC Walter Earl Heyer Jr, sir

As an American, I would like to thank you for your service and for your sacrifice made on behalf of our wonderful country. The youth of today could gain much by learning of heroes such as yourself, men and women whose courage and heart can never be questioned.

May God allow you to read this, and may He allow me to someday shake your hand when I get to Heaven to personally thank you. May he also allow my father to find you and shake your hand now to say thank you; for America, and for those who love you.

With respect, and the best salute a civilian can muster for you, Sir

Curt Carter

"Wally"

I first laid eyes on you when I poked my head into an enemy bunker after a vicious firefight involving tanks & apc(s), gun ships. (My first real scrap with the enemy in my tour.) You were already in the bunker with your "camo" fatigues and looking mean as hell. Later you and I, without any speaking, tied a rope around the ankles of the 8 or so NVA dead soldiers and then an Apc pulled them out the entry hole like a line of sausages or something. Later, at the standown you attacked me for thinking I was hurting a friend of yours from "C" Company. We wrestled around for a long time, but no one was hurt, but a lot of steam was blown off. Later, when I was allowed into Recon, we became great Brothers and watched each others' backs. I miss you and will always have a place in my heart for you Wally. We just had a Recon reunion and spoke about you, Jeff, Phil, Scoggins, Lennie Potts, and missions we went on, etc. etc.R.I.P. Brother.
