St. Louis Globe Democrat picture of John & his father.

Just found a St. Louis Globe Democrat newspaper article titled-Missouri Guardsmen At Camp Ripley & recalled John Jr. had died in Vietnam. There is a picture of Spec. 4 John Bamvakais Jr. saluting his father Lt. Col.(LTC) John Bamvakais. The article states "Lt. Col. John Bamvakais of Jefferson City was greeted by a special visitor at the camp-his son, Spec. 4 John Bamvakais, just back from 13 months in Vietnam and home for a visit before returning to the battlefield in Spetember." I was at Camp Ripley serving in Service Battery, 2nd Howitzer Bn. 128th Field Artillery as a 1Lt. (the Bn. Ammunition Officer). I remember the respect for the Bamvakais name in the Missouri National Guard. The picture shows John Jr. wearing the Combat Infantry Badge and Purple Heart ribbon. The newspaper article page 12A is dated 07Aug67. Just 53 days after this happy newspaper article, John died in Vietnam. Best wishes for the family of these two respected soldiers.
