Thank You
Dear LCPL Donald Hawyer,
Thank you for your service as an Antitank Assaultman. The 51st anniversary of the start of your tour just passed, sad. It is Easter week and Passover. The war was years ago, but we all need to acknowledge the sacrifices of those like you who answered our nation's call. Please watch over America, it stills needs your strength, courage and faithfulness. Rest in peace with the angels.

A Photo at Last...
In preparing to read my list of 30 names upon the 35th anniversary of the dedication of the Wall, I found photos exist for all but one. A cousin that had left a tribute on this page was contacted and has provided the first photo of Donald R. HAWVER.

We remember
I'm a cousin of Donald Hawyer. His name is misspelled; unfortunately, it's Hawyer on the wall, but it is HAWVER. Although I was only 11 when he died, I recall how kind he was to me, and I remember his family coming to and staying at our home for the funeral. Donny was buried in Vicksburg, Michigan, where he graduated from high school with my brother, Robert. My brother, now deceased, was an Army veteran of Viet Nam, and was still home on his 30-day leave when we learned of Donny. Although it seems most of my family have forgotten, my daughters know where Donny and his mother are buried and have gone with me to put flowers on their graves.

Remembering An American Hero
Dear LCPL Donald Robert Hawyer, sir
As an American, I would like to thank you for your service and for your sacrifice made on behalf of our wonderful country. The youth of today could gain much by learning of heroes such as yourself, men and women whose courage and heart can never be questioned.
May God allow you to read this, and may He allow me to someday shake your hand when I get to Heaven to personally thank you. May he also allow my father to find you and shake your hand now to say thank you; for America, and for those who love you.
With respect, Sir
Curt Carter
