Thank You

Dear Cpl Wayne Hawkins,
Thank you for your service as an Infantryman. It is Easter week and Passover. The war was years ago, but we all need to acknowledge the sacrifices of those like you who answered our nation's call. Please watch over America, it stills needs your strength, courage and faithfulness. Rest in peace with the angels.

A Great Guy

Wayne was a great young man who was very friendly with a warm personality. His nickname was Kayo and he lived with his family near me in a small neighborhood called Elliot in Pittsburgh in the 1960's

His smile lives in my memory and his name is forever cast with the best people of my generation. The Wall is filled with all of their names.

God Bless his family and his friends the he fought for in Vietnam.

Remembering An American Hero

Dear CPL Wayne R Hawkins, sir

As an American, I would like to thank you for your service and for your sacrifice made on behalf of our wonderful country. The youth of today could gain much by learning of heroes such as yourself, men and women whose courage and heart can never be questioned.

May God allow you to read this, and may He allow me to someday shake your hand when I get to Heaven to personally thank you. May he also allow my father to find you and shake your hand now to say thank you; for America, and for those who love you.

With respect, and the best salute a civilian can muster for you, Sir

Curt Carter

For CPL Wayne R. HAWKINS, USA...another of Pitytsburgh's bravest of heroes, who gave his all for us!

He loved us so.
Every day, in a hundred ways, he told us so.
In honesty, in affection, he told us so.
He loved us so.
Every day, in a hundred ways, he showed us so.
With loyalty and bravery, he showed us so.
He was our defender, and he kept us free!
He took an oath to guard us, and fought for liberty!
He loved us so, and we should know.
For we loved him so.
Corporal Hawkins, you have given your last full measure of devotion in the service of our country. for which we all thank you. ou have been there and done that, in the process sacrificing your life in order to defend liberty everywhere! You went to fight for another man's freedom as well as ours. You have brought honor to Pittsburgh...the HOME OF HEROES BRAVE AND TRUE!...YES, THE CITY WHERE THREE RIVERS MEET! The HOME of the BUCS and the STEELERS! You have given all that mortality can give! Your name and fame are the birthright of EVERY American citizen! You have lived up to the code of conduct and chivalry of those who guard this beloved land...an ideal SO NOBLE that it arouses a sense of pride, and yet, of humility! You are our hero because of your actions in fighting for America, for the cause of liberty and justice for all! I believe that Jill Corey, whom Avonmore (her home town) and Pittsburgh (where she got her start) can claim as one of their own, and whom I greatly admire as one of my three top favorite, fabulous songbirds along with England's Julie Andrews, and another songbird from England, Dusty Springfield, although she passed on back in 1999, would be very proud opf your service to America, and the sacrifices you made in order to support and defend the Constitution of the United States, as you have taken an oath to do! Well done, Corporal! Be thou at peace. ARMY STRONG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

To Put A Face With A Name

Wayne, to honor your memory and the sacrifice you made for our country I want to make sure your photo will be displayed on your birthday each and every year when the Education Center is completed, so it is with great pride and humility that I post this remembrance with a picture of you that your Aunt Debra posted on her website. You are not forgotten and remain in the hearts of many all these years later. You have been designated to be one of God's special angels, along with the love of my life, who also sacrificed his life during this war. God Bless You Wayne for being who you were and for all you did--we live in freedom to this day thanks to heroes like you.
