YOU ARE NOT FORGOTTEN!

Dear Private First Class Hauser ~ You Are Not Forgotten!
This is the 3rd year, on the anniversary of your passing, that I ran a mile with you in my thoughts and prayers. Rest in Peace, Dear Brother.

Each year since September 2015, at the annual 5th Division Army reunion, members of the Society of the Fifth Division, U.S Army remember the 514 soldiers from the 1st Brigade, 5th Division, who were Killed in Action in Vietnam. You are among the soldiers remembered. You Are Not Forgotten!

Ground Casualty

PFC Raymond E. Hauser served with Company D, 1st Battalion, 61st Infantry Regiment, 1st Brigade, 5th Infantry Division, United States Army Vietnam. Hauser arrived in Vietnam just as the 1st Brigade was preparing for Operation Lam Son 719 (February 8 – March 25, 1971). The Brigade was tasked with opening the National Route QL-9 in Quang Tri Province from Dong Ha to the Laotian border, and its engineers were responsible for constructing access roads from the Rock Pile through the Punch Bowl to Khe Sanh. Following this work, a 20,000-man Army of the Republic of Vietnam (ARVN) Task Force moved to the Laotian border. For 69 days of increasingly confused and bitter fighting, the Brigade prevented the enemy from making a successful offensive move against any of these vital links in the ARVN offensive. A body count of 400 North Vietnamese was made, and the primary mission to keep the logistical support channels fully operational at all times was accomplished. When the last of the logistical units had withdrawn, the 1st Brigade resumed its search and cordon patrols and rice denial efforts in eastern Quang Tri Province as it anticipated standdown and redeployment activities later in the year. Three weeks after Lam Son, Hauser died at Quang Tri Combat Base on April 18, 1971, where it was reported he took his own life. He was 21 years old.
