Lax first meeting
Ron, when we met at LAX YOU
We’re the clean cut blond guy
We were both born in West Virginia
And both our families were coal miners. Our friendship was
Immediately made
Our 16 weeks at A school and
At the end of our school you
We’re offered a bilet in Hawaii as
A admiral driver. You turned down that job because as you said
“ I won’t tell my grand children
That I was a driver in Hawaii “
I am going to Nam to fight for
My country. Minutes later the
Senior chief offered me the same
Job. I told the chief that if they had ask me first I would have taken that job but I can’t leave my brother Ron
So chief do me a favor put Ron &
Myself in the same Battalion
Mcb 4 as it turned out
Ron I know you are always with me
From that fateful day may 20th 1968
Will see you some day
Will be the best reunion ever
You will always be my best friend

52 1/2 years later...
For all of us that were there, the memories will stay with us forever. Here is a photo of the remembrance (the cast bronze dog tags) Roger Vincell and I left at your grave site during our long over due promised visit in 2008 to Carlsbad, NM. I unsuccessfully continue to make it right. Your old buddy Dave Strand ...EO "A" school / MCB #4 / Viet Nam '68
