Los Angeles County Vietnam Veterans Memorial Highway

A portion of Sepulveda Boulevard/State Highway Route 1 in El Segundo near Los Angeles International Airport has been dedicated to the residents of Los Angeles County who served in Vietnam. This section of highway is now designated the Los Angeles County Vietnam Veterans Memorial Highway. Adopted by the California State Legislature in 2000, the highway honors the more than 350,000 California veterans who served in the Vietnam War, including the 5,822 killed or missing in action. Los Angeles County has the largest number of Vietnam veterans in California and 1,857 of its residents were killed or missing in action during that war. This memorial corridor provides a fitting and proper way for the residents of Los Angeles County to express their gratitude and appreciation for the sacrifices these Vietnam veterans have made for their country.

Fred

Fred helped me when I had heat exhaustion in July 66' on Operation Hastings in the Vietnam DMZ. Fred was a strong man and a great soldier. I know he never got a chance to hold that daughter of his who was born while we were in Nam' but he was anxious to and he sure loved her mother... "Only the good die young!" I'm trying to upload a picture of Fred, on the left , a Marine named Roberts that we served with and me on the right. If it doesn't work, his family can contact me and I will send it. You Are Not Forgotten.

Freddy, I've thought about you for many years since you were killed-in-action. I wasn't with you when you died, but I heard you asked for me when you were hit. I grieve for you and the fact you lost your young life and you were taken from your loved ones and I grieve for myself for the loss of a good and dear friend, made so many years ago in very difficult times for us corpsmen and Marines. Marines and friends like yourself are never replaced. May you rest in peace my friend. You are not forgotten.
