Bad day on Go Noi island.
I was not acquainted with Phillip, but I was present when he and six other Marines were wounded by a "daisy chain" of several explosive devices up in a line of bamboo trees. Our Corpsman received the Bronze Star for providing first-aid for those wounded Marines.

I Served Because you Served
Uncle Phil,
I'm your nephew Matt. I can't begin to explain to you how proud I am of your service to this country. Your sacrifice lead me to walk down a similar path in service in the United States Army. We never got a chance to meet but I wanted you to know that you have not and you will not be forgotten. Because of men and women like you we I can enjoy the freedom we have. I take that very seriously and know that it's a gift. God Bless you Phil. Semper Fi.

Thank You
Dear PFC Philip Hammons,
Thank you for your service as a Rifleman. The war was years ago, but we all need to acknowledge the sacrifices of those like you who answered our nation's call. Please watch over America, it stills needs your strength, courage and faithfulness. Rest in peace with the angels.
