If I should die...remembrances for CPL. Roy Lee HAMMONDS, USMC...Waxahachie's bravest of heroes!!!!!
If I should die, and leave you here awhile, be not like others, sore undone, who keep long vigils by the silent dust, and weep...for MY sake, turn again to life, and smile...Nerving thy heart, and trembling hand to do something to comfort other hearts than thine...Complete these dear, unfinished tasks of mine...and I, perchance, may therein comfort you.

If Tears Could Build a Stairway to My Brother!
If tears could build a stairway and memories a lane. I would walk right up to Heaven and bring you back Home again. No farewell words were spoken, No time to say "GOODBYE". You were gone before I knew it and only God knows why. My heart still aches with sadness and secret tears still flow. What it meant to I love you-no one can ever know. But now I know you want me to mourn for you no more; to remember all the happy times, life still has much in store. Since you'll never be forgotten, I pledge to today-A hollowed place within my heart is where you'll always STAY.
I will always love you
Your Little sister

My Big Brother in Vietnam
Roy was not my big brother, really, but he called me his little brother, because I was small. We slept on the same hills, walked the same rice patties, ate the same food and lived in the heat and rain together, fought the enemy together. I had been on hospital ship, Roy on R&R. He came back from R&R and had to go to different platoon, because his platoon was on hospital ship. At this time was when he gave his life. He gave me his first "Purple Heart". Inside he wrote" To my little brother we were in Nam together, I know he will never get one. Signed Tex, (this was his nickname). I will cherish it all my life. My first son I named after him JOSEPH ROY JOHNSON.
