Killed in intense firefight with NVA near Con Thien DMZ
Hammond was a slim youth with pale blue eyes who served well and was killed in an afternoon firefight with NVA. Two Marines were killed and six wounded. At least 16 NVA were killed. Hammond had been humping in the bush for weeks on and off in monsoon weather. The fight occurred with the sun out and humidity 100%.

I think of you often.
Mac - I think of you often. I have visited the Wall several times and always find your name and say a prayer for you and your family. You were much too young - just a boy.
