How I Met Jack Michael Hammond

In the late 1990s the Traveling Vietnam’s Memorial Wall was in Port Angles, WA. My friend and I were in high school at the time and decided to go visit. I walked about halfway down the wall, turned and looked at names, and that’s how I met Jack Michael Hammond. Suddenly I was staring at my dad’s name on the wall. Except the Jack Michael Hammond I knew as my dad was back home. I will never forget this experience, and it’s been a blessing to remember this Jack Michael Hammond each Memorial Day. Thank you for your sacrifice, and it’s a honor to share your name.

You Made the Difference in My Life

Jack,
It has been 55 years this year since you left. There has seldom been a month that goes by that I don't count my blessings that I spent time growing up with you. When we were young, growing up in the same neighborhood, I wanted to be Jackie Hammond. I tried to play sports with the same intensity as you, be an artist like you...to be another brother in your family. To this day, I give credit to you and your family for letting me see how a great family looks. When Cindy and I married, your family set the standard for our home. We are thankful. I miss you to this day, Jack. I am a better person for having known you. God Bless You and your family. Mike
