YOU ARE NOT FORGOTTEN!

Dear Corporal Gutke, You Are Not Forgotten!
This is the 2nd year, on the anniversary of your passing, that I ran a mile with you in my thoughts and prayers. Rest in Peace, Dear Brother.

Each year since September 2015, at the annual 5th Division Army reunion, members of the Society of the Fifth Division, U.S Army remember the 514 soldiers from the 1st Brigade, 5th Division, who were Killed in Action in Vietnam. You are among the soldiers remembered. You Are Not Forgotten!

honoring you...

A butterfly lights beside us like a sunbeam
And for a brief moment its glory
and beauty belong to our world
But then it flies again
And though we wish it could have stayed...
We feel lucky to have seen it.

Stories from The Final Bridge

He Who Stands Alone, Stands Above the Rest

Ron Gutke was from Almond, Wisconsin. He graduated with the class of ’68. Ron was a Corporal with the 5th Infantry Division in Vietnam. Ron lost his life on this day September 19, 1969 when he drowned while crossing a river in the Quang Tri Province. He was only 19 years old. He was the only one taken on this day in Vietnam from Wisconsin.

The 1970 high school yearbook was dedicated to Ron and he is one of three names that the town’s American Legion Post is named after. Ron is buried next to his parents at the East German Cemetery located east of town on County Highway D. They say a person is never truly forgotten, if his memory stays alive.

Life Is Eternal

We dedicate our 1970 Eagles yearbook to Cpl. Ronald Gutke, who gave his life this past year in Viet Nam. Ron is a credit to his family, friends, school, community and country.
