Ground Casualty
PFC Boris W. Gurdcilani was Clerk-Typist serving with B Company, 37th Signal Battalion, 1st Signal Brigade, U.S. Army, Republic of Vietnam. Working in a rear echelon capacity in a war zone did not preclude the handling of weapons as part of their daily routine since many clerks, cooks, and others with administrative and supply duties were required to participate in providing security on the perimeters of the bases where they were assigned. On August 23, 1969, Gurdcilani died in Thua Thien Province, RVN, when a grenade accidently detonated while he was in camp.
