Still remembered

Victor Manuel Guerrero is still remembered. It is now well over forty-four years since the late Victor has passed away. His memory still lives on in the hearts of family, relatives and friends he knew,

This army corporal was the second son and middle child of three to Oscar M. Guerrero, a certified welder and Maria Edith Armendariz, a homemaker. These parents of Victor are still alive at the present time in the San Gabriel Valley of Southern California. Oscar is a native of Camargo, Chihuahua and Maria Edith is originally from Crowley County, Colorado and grew up in the State of Chihuahua. Shortly after Mr. and Mrs. Guerrero married, they both settled in New Mexico and Texas. Specifically, they lived in and around the El Paso area where their eldest son Oscar A. Guerrero was born, in 1947. Victor followed in 1951. For many years the Guerreros had only two sons, until daughter Theresa was born in 1966. By this time the family had relocated to California since the mid 1950s.

Victor is fondly remembered as a good young man with a big and generous heart. He loved his family and the love was reciprocated back to him. Months after Victor left, his maternal grandmother Maria Felicitas Armendariz whom lived with and loved Victor too, died also.

Photographs of Victor are visible throughout Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Guerrero's home. These pictures deeply reflect a sense of immortality for Victor.

Mass of Christian burial was said at St. Anthony Catholic Church in San Gabriel and the remains of Victor Manuel Guerrero were interred at Resurrection Cemetery, in Montebello, California. He now rests at the same cemetery where his maternal grandparents Maria Felicitas and Jesus Esteban Armendariz are both interred. Maria Edith and Oscar Guerrero will also be laid to rest at this cemetery as well.

May God's perpetual light shine upon the soul of Victor and rest in peace. Amen.

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit. As it was in the beginning, is now and ever shall be world without end. Amen.

Hail Mary full of grace, the Lord is with thee. Blessed art thou amongst women and blessed is the fruit of thy womb Jesus. Holy Mary mother of God, pray for us sinners now and at the hour of our death. Amen.

St, Martin de Porres, pray for the spirit of Victor and may he blessed with eternal salvation forever. Amen

Remembering An American Hero

Dear CPL Victor Manuel Guerrero, sir

As an American, I would like to thank you for your service and for your sacrifice made on behalf of our wonderful country. The youth of today could gain much by learning of heroes such as yourself, men and women whose courage and heart can never be questioned.

May God allow you to read this, and may He allow me to someday shake your hand when I get to Heaven to personally thank you. May he also allow my father to find you and shake your hand now to say thank you; for America, and for those who love you.

With respect, and the best salute a civilian can muster for you, Sir

Curt Carter

Los Angeles County Vietnam Veterans Memorial Highway

A portion of Sepulveda Boulevard/State Highway Route 1 in El Segundo near Los Angeles International Airport has been dedicated to the residents of Los Angeles County who served in Vietnam. This section of highway is now designated the Los Angeles County Vietnam Veterans Memorial Highway. Adopted by the California State Legislature in 2000, the highway honors the more than 350,000 California veterans who served in the Vietnam War, including the 5,822 killed or missing in action. Los Angeles County has the largest number of Vietnam veterans in California and 1,857 of its residents were killed or missing in action during that war. This memorial corridor provides a fitting and proper way for the residents of Los Angeles County to express their gratitude and appreciation for the sacrifices these Vietnam veterans have made for their country.
