For the family
To his family:
We served together in A Company, 2nd Battalion, 5th Cavalry of the 1st Cavalry Division, call sign, Lean Apache. It was an honor to have done so. The guys are now getting together for reunions and communicate by email. We have been in contact with a number of family members of those who did not return. If you have questions or would like to contact the guys who served with him please send me an email at [email protected]. I will be more than happy to help in any way I can and I will forward your communication to the group.
I know this may sound somewhat sterile or distant. That is not my intention. I really do not know what to say to you. But if I or the guys are able to answer questions or provide insights that will be helpful to you, we want to do that. I assure you that we all share your grief. Our hearts go out to you. We will always do all we can for the families. We owe it to you.

Gone But Not Forgotten
Specialist Four Richard Edward Griego was killed in action, on 29 March l969, soon after combat assaulting into an area, which was given the name of LZ Jess. Specialist Griego was with the 3rd Platoon and I was his Platoon Sergeant. SP4 Griego was an outstanding Soldier in every respect. The memories of SP4 Griego, who paid the ultimate sacrifice on that fateful day, will be with me always.
