Thank You

Dear Sgt Ben Greene,
Thank you for your service as a Tank Crewman. It has been too long, and it's about time for us all to acknowledge the sacrifices of those like you who answered our nation's call. Please watch over America, it stills needs your strength, courage and faithfulness. Rest in peace with the angels.

With Grandma now

Someone else mentioned that Ben is buried in Greenwood Cemetery in Tomahawk, WI. He is next to his grandma (who was my grandma too), Emma Segebart, who helped raise him. She died the same day that he did.

Final Mission of SGT Ben J. Greene

On May 7, 1968 SGT Ben J. Greene gallantly gave his life in the service of our Country while participating in Operation Allen Brook in Quang Nam Province, Republic of VietNam, as a member of 3rd Platoon, Bravo Company, 1st Tank Battalion in support of elements of the 7th Marines. Ben had the lead tank that day as the force spear headed by Echo and Golf Companies, 2nd Battalion, 7th Marines swept through Phu Dong (1) Ville in the Go Noi Island area southwest of Da Nang. As the sweep proceeded small arms and automatic weapons fire broke out on three sides. When the advance stalled due to the heavy amount of incoming fire Ben was killed by small arms fire as he ably manned the tanks 50-caliber machine gun returning suppressing fire, while in the direct line of the withering enemy fire.
