Final Mission of CAPT Kenneth D. Bailey

CAPT Kenneth D. Bailey was a helicopter pilot serving with Air Cavalry Troop, 11th Armored Cavalry. On March 22, 1969, he was leading a lift ship platoon inserting aero rifle soldiers into a small LZ (landing zone) in the jungle in an area northeast of the Michelin Rubber Plantation in Binh Long Province, RVN. During one insertion, his aircraft took heavy volume of enemy small-arms fire from a tree line. One round entered the cockpit and hit CAPT Bailey in the head, killing him instantly. His co-pilot, although hit in both feet and losing consciousness from blood loss, was able to lift the helicopter up and fly several hundred meters, setting down in an open field by American forces. Remembering An American Hero

Dear Captain Kenneth Dean Bailey, sir

As an American, I would like to thank you for your service and for your sacrifice made on behalf of our wonderful country. The youth of today could gain much by learning of heroes such as yourself, men and women whose courage and heart can never be questioned.

May God allow you to read this, and may He allow me to someday shake your hand when I get to Heaven to personally thank you. May he also allow my father to find you and shake your hand now to say thank you; for America, and for those who love you.

With respect, and the best salute a civilian can muster for you, Sir

Curt Carter

If I should die...remembrances for CAPT. Kenneth Dean BAILEY, USA....who made the ultimate sacrifice

If I should die, and leave you here awhile, be not like others, sore undone, who keep long vigils by the silent dust, and weep...for MY sake, turn again to life, and smile...Nerving thy heart, and trembling hand to do something to comfort other hearts than thine...Complete these dear, u nfinished tasks of mine...and I, perchance, may therein comfort you.
