Remembering An American Hero

Dear PFC Jose Antonio Graniela Jr, sir

As an American, I would like to thank you for your service and for your sacrifice made on behalf of our wonderful country. The youth of today could gain much by learning of heroes such as yourself, men and women whose courage and heart can never be questioned.

May God allow you to read this, and may He allow me to someday shake your hand when I get to Heaven to personally thank you. May he also allow my father to find you and shake your hand now to say thank you; for America, and for those who love you.

With respect, and the best salute a civilian can muster for you, Sir

Curt Carter

Remembrance

My brother left for Vietnam in early 1968, I was just 11 years old and thought the world of Joey. Just before Joey left he got engaged to Miriam DeJesus, what a great engagement party in my parents back yard. Who knew that would be one of the last times we would all be together as a family. I think of Joey often and wonder what would have been. Joey was just 24 when he went to Vietnam. Now he is joined by my dad and brother Ralph my guardian angels. Love you and miss you all.

I was with "Joe" during the weeks, days and hours until his death. He was a good man, a man with a sense of humor. A brave man who had fate been different would be writing this not me. I think of you often my friend always with a smile.
