Final Mission of CPL David T. Graham Jr.

On July 11, 1965, three platoons from 3rd Reconnaissance Battalion, 3rd Marine Division, consisting of four officers and seventy-five enlisted men, began a two-day reconnaissance of an area three miles southeast of the Tuy Loan Bridge in Quang Nam Province, RVN. At 10:45 AM on the first day, 1st Platoon began receiving sniper fire when one member of the patrol, rifleman CPL David T. Graham Jr., was hit in the head. The patrol immediately took up firing positions and requested support from a reaction team as the level of fire increased in intensity. While awaiting the arrival of the reaction force, the helicopter evacuation of Graham was successfully accomplished. Critically wounded, he was returned to the United States for treatment. Graham died at the U.S. Naval Hospital in Philadelphia, PA, on September 22, 1965. [Taken from coffeltdatabase.org and Command Chronology, 3rd Reconnaissance Battalion, July 1965]

He was a neighbor and friend

We called you Tony and you were always a 'role model' to the young brothers and sisters who lived on Birch Avenue and looked up to you. We were saddened by the news of your death but it only served to make you more of a hero than you already were in our eyes. The older I get the more I appreciate your courage, your strength, your dedication to service and giving the ultimate sacrifice for the freedom we all cherish. God Bless you my big brother from Princeton, NJ...Rest In Peace.
