À true Marine to the end

SPEEDY GONZALEZ was a Marine to the end. I was standing beside him when we were hit by mortar and rockets. We wpere hit by the first incoming round. There were 2 other men with us. Both had only been in country for about a week. I know one was KIA. The other one was WIA. After we were hit Speedy took my hand and said to me "Saul's keep your cool so we can help the other wounded." Because he did that it took my mind off of my wounds. I was not able to help anyone because I could not move my legs. When the doc got to us hetold him to help the other wounded first. He was nnot only my friend he is also my hero. To his daughter

Remembering An American Hero

Dear PVT Francisco Gonzalez Jr, sir

As an American, I would like to thank you for your service and for your sacrifice made on behalf of our wonderful country. The youth of today could gain much by learning of heroes such as yourself, men and women whose courage and heart can never be questioned.

May God allow you to read this, and may He allow me to someday shake your hand when I get to Heaven to personally thank you. May he also allow my father to find you and shake your hand now to say thank you; for America, and for those who love you.

With respect, and the best salute a civilian can muster for you, Sir

Curt Carter
