Not friendly fire

Danny was not taken by friendly fire, that is the first I ever heard anyone say that. He was killed by shrapnel while out on patrol. It was his first time out with this unit. The last letter he wrote ended with I hear the copters coming in to pick us up to go on patrol.

Never will forget

I was only 10 when you left us, I remember Granny loved you so, you were her favorite you know. I have never forgotten you, often talk about you wishing we all had more time with you. When we drive home for a visit, my family always stop by to put Flowers on Granny's, Dad Gerald's and your grave site.
I'm finally making it to DC this year and the first thing on my list is to see your name being honored for your services on that big wall. Can hardly contain myself. I'm so proud of your courage and love for your family. May God Bless Sammie and Tammy for the ultimate sacrifice they have had to endure from loosing you. Until we meet again Cousin, until we meet again.

Daniel Goldsmith remembered by his fellow soldiers

The military picture of Daniel goldsmith wearing an ammo belt came from the book MY GIFT TO YOU, which includes the stories and pictures of American soldiers who died in Vietnam while serving with the 3rd Battalion, 506th Infantry (the Currahees), 101st Airborne Division. The pictures were allowed for use for the Faces Never Forgotten project by the author and fellow Currahee soldier Jerald "Jerry" Berry.

Remembering An American Hero

Dear SGT Daniel Eric Goldsmith, sir

As an American, I would like to thank you for your service and for your sacrifice made on behalf of our wonderful country. The youth of today could gain much by learning of heroes such as yourself, men and women whose courage and heart can never be questioned.

May God allow you to read this, and may He allow me to someday shake your hand when I get to Heaven to personally thank you. May he also allow my father to find you and shake your hand now to say thank you; for America, and for those who love you.

With respect, Sir

Curt Carter
