honoring you...

A butterfly lights beside us like a sunbeam
And for a brief moment its glory
and beauty belong to our world
But then it flies again
And though we wish it could have stayed...
We feel lucky to have seen it.

Wendell

His fathers name was Wendell, and his middle name was also Wendell. His father served in World War II and was killed in the pacific theater when his bomber plane crashed. This made it more striking that he would die in Vietnam. We named one of our sons Wendell in honor of these two family members of ours. A couple of years ago we were able to visit the memorial and let our Wendell do a rubbing of Specialist Robert Wendell Gilliam. It was a very special moment and will never be forgoten.
