REMEMBRANCES

LEFT FOR HENRY DENNIS BABERS
POSTED ON 9.17.1999
POSTED BY: Andrew Shinnick

I remember you ... yes, I do ...

I didn't know Henry as "Henry" ... he was Dennis. We went to Admiral Farragut Acad. in St. Petersburg, Florida in the early 1960's.
As an upper classman and battalion commander, he was under no obligation to even acknowledge a plebe's existence ... much less talk to him. But Dennis went out of his way to talk to us as a sort of older brother. I never forgot his kindness so news of his death was particularly hard on me.
I think of Dennis often and mourn the loss of such an exceptional man. I wonder what the world lost when Dennis left us ... would he have been an engineer, a lawyer or scientist? Would Dennis have written a book that would have touched lives; painted a picture or written a poem that would have moved us? Would he have become a politician and made our world safer, better? The "What Ifs" are endless. And we'll never know.
I'm particularly saddened that no one has posted a word for Dennis. He was a fine man and I stand witness to the passing of Dennis Babers.
