Thank You
Dear PFC Jerry Gentry,
Thank you for your service as an Armor Reconnaissance Specialist with the 1st Cavalry. Happy Thanksgiving. It has been too long, and it's about time for us all to acknowledge the sacrifices of those like you who answered our nation's call. Please watch over America, it stills needs your strength, courage and faithfulness. Rest in peace with the angels.

Silver Star Citation
Jerry Wayne Gentry
Silver Star
AWARDED FOR ACTIONS
DURING Vietnam War
Service: Army
Rank: Private First Class
Battalion: 1st Squadron
Division: Americal Division
GENERAL ORDERS:
Headquarters, Americal Division, General Orders No. 1577 (December 9, 1967)
CITATION:
The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918 (amended by an act of July 25, 1963), takes pride in presenting the Silver Star (Posthumously) to Private First Class Jerry Wayne Gentry (ASN: US-53450814), United States Army, for gallantry in action against a hostile force while serving with Troop B, 1st Squadron, 1st Cavalry Regiment, Americal Division, on 9 November 1967 in the Republic of Vietnam. On that date, Private First Class Gentry was assigned as a crew member of a track operating west of Que Son. As his vehicle was moving in an assault, it was struck by enemy recoilless rifle fire. Of the five crewmen aboard, only Private Gentry was uninjured by the blast. Reacting immediately and with complete disregard for his own safety, Private Gentry began helping the wounded to the safety of a nearby embankment. After courageously making three trips with the lightly wounded, Private Gentry returned a fourth time to aid the one seriously wounded man. Running through intense enemy automatic weapons fire to the disabled vehicle, he carried his wounded comrade to an awaiting track for evacuation. Once Private Gentry had assured the safety of his entire crew, he moved to mount another vehicle and was mortally wounded by a burst of enemy fire as he climbed aboard. Through Private Gentry's intrepid gallantry and his unselfish devotion to duty, the lives of four of his comrades were saved. Private First Class Gentry's unquestionable valor was in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflects great credit upon himself, the Americal Division, and the United States Army.
