Remembering An American Hero
Dear Major Gerald Francis Ayres, sir
As an American, I would like to thank you for your service and for your sacrifice made on behalf of our wonderful country. The youth of today could gain much by learning of heroes such as yourself, men and women whose courage and heart can never be questioned.
May God allow you to read this, and may He allow me to someday shake your hand when I get to Heaven to personally thank you. May he also allow my father to find you and shake your hand now to say thank you; for America, and for those who love you.
With respect, Sir
Curt Carter

Still remembering
As a young teenager, I proudly and prayerfully wore your name on my Pow/Mia bracelet. Now, not far from 60, I find you are still frequently in my thoughts. I remember screening the newspapers for news about you. My prayer is somehow you knew you were being supported and prayed for here in the States.

My original bracelet
I have had my bracelet ever since I was your daughter's third grade teacher in the 1970's. You were MIA at that time, and I have frequently thought during the last 40 years whether you ever returned to your family. I am so glad that you have been found.
