Crash Information on U.S. Army helicopter OH-23G tail number 62-03822

On September 8, 1967 U.S. Army helicopter OH-23G tail number 62-03822 crashed into trees and a stream as a result of fuel exhaustion due to faulty gauges. The pilot WO1 Gaylord L. Westbay and passenger SP4 Russell G. Garrison were pinned in the wreckage. While a second passenger left the crash site to seek help, NVA forces arrived, killing the pilot and passenger, and pilfered the aircraft. [Taken from vhpa.org]

Army SP4/C Russell G. Garrison, 21, of 30 E. Grant st., Woodstown, N.J. died in the crash of a helicopter during a combat support mission.
Garrison, son of Mr. and Mrs. John P. Garrison, was a 1964 graduate of Woodstown High School. He enlisted in the Army in October, 1966 and was sent to Vietnam last May.

Uncle Russ
My Uncle Russ was my hero. We all loved him and looked up to him. He loved to beat us at Canasta and teach us how to play 52-pick up. We still really miss him! Would love to hear from anyone who served with him.
