YOU ARE NOT FORGOTTEN!

Dear Sergeant Gardner ~ You Are Not Forgotten!
This is the 3rd year, on the anniversary of your passing, that I ran a mile with you in my thoughts and prayers. Rest in Peace, Dear Brother.

Each year since September 2015, at the annual 5th Division Army reunion, members of the Society of the Fifth Division, U.S Army remember the 514 soldiers from the 1st Brigade, 5th Division, who were Killed in Action in Vietnam. You are among the soldiers remembered. You Are Not Forgotten!

We enlisted together

Gordon and I planned for months to enlist together. We expected to be together at least through basic training but an arbitrary splitting of a line while going through the physical set us in different directions. I ended up near an R&R station in Thailand and you ended up in Vietnam. I'm 72 now and can't remember much from those early years but I remember vividly your laugh and keen sense of humor. Your loss changed my whole view on life, death, war, patriotism, and the things I value as an adult. You are remembered.

honoring you...

Thank you for your service to our country so long ago sir. The remembrance from your brother Gilbert is moving and reflects the anguish experienced by so many families that lost loved ones in this war. As long as you are remembered you will remain in our hearts forever…..
