Thank You
Dear Lt Charles Gaines,
Thank you for your service as an Infantry Officer. Your 83rd birthday just passed, happy birthday. Happy Halloween. It has been too long, and it's about time for us all to acknowledge the sacrifices of those like you who answered our nation's call. Please watch over America, it stills needs your strength, courage and faithfulness. Rest in peace with the angels.

Charles Gaines - Gene Lee's memories
By the way, Korby or Ms. Peggy, I showed Dad the photo and asked Dad was he that handsome and Dad said he was but that he remembered him looking much tougher! A true Marine!

To an American HERO from my Dad - Gene Lee!
Charles Gaines is a name that I heard throughout my life. He and my now 82-year-old dad, Gene Lee, served at Parris Island together when about 20 years of age. They and another Marine from MS (Dad can't remember his name) rode with them from NC to MS on several trips home. On one of their trips, Dad met Carol Joy May from Little Rock, MS, who became my Mom. Charles either met or already knew Peggy-his future wife. I have had the honor of meeting Ms. Peggy and daughter Korby. God Bless the Gaines family and their true American Hero-Charles Gaines who Dad said received a battlefield commission!
