Whis I could have done more

I had been in the field with our Company maybe a week or 10 days at the time Joe was killed. I was the platoon medic and as green and new as could be. He was the 1st person I had to treat. He was hit by a single sniper round in the head and by the time we recovered him was nothing I nor anyone could have done. We were all sitting down at mid-morning taking a break. At some point before this Joe had picked a small purple flower from some jungle plant and had placed it in the elastic band around his steel pot. When one person is shot like that out of a group of 5 or 6 guys you wonder if that was what they were shooting at, his flower? Over the years I have come to realize that it was just Gods plan for him. He was needed elsewhere and the flower had nothing to do with it at all.

Rest in Peace Dear One until we meet again.

Thinking of you

Joey, as we knew you, during our early high school days was always cheerful and full of the devil! You are thought of often.
