My cousin

Rest in peace, Gary. I'm going back to viet Nam in January 2019. Hopefully this will bring closure and memories will go away. But you will never be forgotten. You are a true American hero. I am proud to have known you.

Final Mission of 1LT Gary D. Frasher

On May 8, 1970, a U.S. Army helicopter UH-1H (tail number 69-15058) from Company A (Little Bears), 25th Aviation Battalion, was on an early morning emergency resupply mission when it was shot down in Tay Ninh Province, RVN. Three crewmen were killed in the incident. They included aircraft commander 1LT Merlin G. Orr, pilot 1LT Gary D. Frasher, and gunner PFC Frankie C. Vassaur. Little Bear rescue aircraft arrived on site minutes after the crash and evacuated the one survivor. Vassaur was posthumously promoted to corporal. My big brother

You left when I was just a little girl. My hair is now gray, my life is full, but my heart still aches for the young man I never got to know. Forty-seven years have passed and I have been in contact with your Army brothers who are sharing their memories with me. God bless them.

OCS Mighty 94th Company

Gary graduated September 28, 1968 from Infantry Officer Candidate School (OCS) and was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant Infantry Officer. I am a classmate and knew Gary and his desire to do his best. All his fellow classmates would attest that graduating from Infantry OCS was no small task. He was one of the few who made it to graduation and I know he was proud to make it to Commissioning and to be one of the Mighty 94th Company "Freemans Fantastic Few". His sacrifice pains all his classmates, but he choose to be an infantry Officer and none gave greater service than he. Next year will be the 50th Anniversary of our graduation, and a reunion is to be held at Fort Benning, Ga. We want you present DANIEL, if not in body, in spirit. Those of us remaining, that can attend, will honor you at the reunion.
