To Keep Someone Alive in Your Memory is a Lasting Tribute
Roger, Its 41 years later and your memory is still so vivid and fresh in my mind. We grew up together as the best of friends all through high school. Playing baseball in the old Sears lot, wrestling, dating sisters, hanging out, working together at Shillito's, doing all those crazy things teenagers did in the 60's. All these years have gone by but the loss of a friend does not diminish with the passage of time. For so many years I held onto the thought that you would come back. I knew the casket was empty and you would soon return with that big grin of yours. Life happened as we grew up and got old, but your face in my mind is still that young teen full of ideas, dreams and fun. I miss you buddy and will never forget the friendship we shared. Rest in Peace

AMERICAN HERO
I very much appreciate your service to this country and regret the sacrifice you made on that day. I'm very proud of you. You live on in the hearts of those who love you and miss you. A coward dies a million deaths; a hero dies but one.

Basic
I was with Roger in basicand wrote this several years later.
Roger
A happy face, smiling eyes,
A bright spot in basic training,
A friend I never knew before.
Christmas came.
Roger was Santa in a suit of woolen
long johns with a beard of shaving cream.
Summer came.
Roger went to Viet Nam,
Learned to Search and Destroy.
Now, he is a name on a wall,
One I won't forget.
Acree, Roger born 7/10/47 died 7/14/67
Panel #23 PFC U.S. Army Line #68
