Ground Casualty

SSG Albert D. Foster was a Unit Supply Sergeant serving with Headquarters Detachment, Long Lines Battalion (South), Regional Command Group, 1st Signal Battalion. The 1st Signal Battalion was responsible for communications support throughout South Vietnam, operating and maintaining telephones, teletypewriters, and data and facsimile lines. The Regional Command Group operated these extensive communications and electronics systems at over two hundred sites. One was on “VC Hill” (Hill 245), located two miles northwest of Vung Tau city in Phuoc Tuy Province, RVN. On May 10, 1969, SSG Foster was driving a jeep on the steep road on VC Hill when he lost control of the vehicle and went over the side. The jeep overturned and Foster suffered a fatal head injury. His body was taken to the 36th Evacuation Hospital in Vung Tau where he was declared dead by medical staff. Foster was posthumously promoted to Sergeant First Class. [Taken from coffeltdatabase.org]
