Remembering An American Hero
Dear SGT Daniel Arthur Foss, sir
As an American, I would like to thank you for your service and for your sacrifice made on behalf of our wonderful country. The youth of today could gain much by learning of heroes such as yourself, men and women whose courage and heart can never be questioned.
May God allow you to read this, and may He allow me to someday shake your hand when I get to Heaven to personally thank you. May he also allow my father to find you and shake your hand now to say thank you; for America, and for those who love you.
With respect, and the best salute a civilian can muster for you, Sir
Curt Carter

Remembering Dan Foss
Dan Foss was one year behind me growing up in school years.
His brother, David, and I were in the same grades together.
All 3 of us, along with a half-dozen boys in Hiram, grew up together.
We played, camped, hiked, fished and hunted together.
We canoed the Saco, hiked the ledges of Mt. Cutler, and hunted in the wilds of Hiram and Denmark (Maine).
He started at NorthEastern University a year after I went to another college in the Boston area... but he failed to stay in college. That proved to be a serious choice.
His woodland skills, out-door survival knowledge, very sharp mind and very strong body served well in Viet Nam. He would not (or could not) share the details... but he wrote to me, "Whatever you do, stay in school. Don't end up over here."
He did end up over there...
His family and friends have missed him very much... and forever.
Very grateful for the effort that he made, and for his sacrifice that resulted.
You are loved.
Dan Hester.
