NATIVE AMERICAN PRAYER

It is said a man hasn't died as long as he is remembered. This prayer is a way for families, friends and fellow veterans to remember our fallen brothers and sisters. Do not stand at my grave and weep I am not there, I do not sleep. I am a thousand winds that blow, I am the diamond glints on snow. I am the sunlight on ripened grain, I am the gentle autumn rain. When you awaken in the morning hush, I am the swift, uplifting rush of quiet birds in circled flight, I am the stars that shine at night. Do not stand at my grave and cry, I am not there, I did not die

FROM THE OLD MAN OF DETACHMENT A-412 (BTT) CAPTAIN CHARLES CAMPANELLA

FOOTE YOU HAVE BEEN ALIVE DEEP WITHIN MY HEART AND SOUL, SINCE I SENT YOU INTO THE DARKNESS OF HELL ON MARCH 6, 1970. I HAVE MORNED YOU EVEN THOUGH THIS HAD BEEN YOUR OWN REQUEST TO GO ON THIS MISSION. NEVER DID I THINK THE SGTMAJOR FROM THE C-DETACHMENT WOULD HAVE MISCALUATED THE MOVEMENT OF THE MVA DOWN SAMPAN ALLEY SO BADLY AND DROP YOU RIGHT ON TOP OF THE NVA LYING IN WAIT. I TRIED TO GET TO YOU THAT NIGHT, AND EVERY MOMENT THAT WAS DELAYED IN GETTING ME OFF OUR ALTERNATE A-CAMP RAN THOUGH ME LIKE DAGGERS. I WAS GIVING YOU ALL THE SUPPORT THAT I COULD BRING TO YOUR RESQUE, BUT IT WAS NOT ENOUGH. I WAS TALKING WITH YOU THAT NIGHT AND YOU KEPT SAYING DI-WIE GET ME OUT OF HERE, AS THEY ARE ALL OVER ME. FOOTE I REALLY TRIED, BUT BY THE TIME ME AN DI-WIE VUE AND I GOT TO YOU, IT WAS TOO LATE. I REMEMBER ALL TO WELL HEARING THE SMALL ARM BLAST AND YOUR CRY TO ME HELP ME I AM HIT. THAT WOULD BE THE LAST TIME THAT I WOULD HEAR YOUR VOICE EXCEPT WHEN IT ECHOS THROUGH MY BODY ON A DAILY BASIS. PLEASE FORGIVE ME FOR NOT GETTING TO YOU IN TIME. I REALLY TRIED AND THAT WILL ALWAYS BE A SCAR ON MY HEART.
