friend

Roger was my neighbor who lived across the street from me, and was also a classmate in high school. We talked all the time. Roger's best friend was Donny Barrett. I saw them both going hunting, fishing and the like. They both loved to trap. They were inseparatable. Donny lost it when Roger was killed, especially when they were in the same unit. Donny never did recover. It devastated his live. Roger had a beautiful wife whom I met at the bar, before they were married. I cannot wait to go to heaven to see Roger again. He was a very special person. He is always in my thoughts.

Remembering An American Hero

Dear SP4 Roger Carl Atkinson, sir

As an American, I would like to thank you for your service and for your sacrifice made on behalf of our wonderful country. The youth of today could gain much by learning of heroes such as yourself, men and women whose courage and heart can never be questioned.

May God allow you to read this, and may He allow me to someday shake your hand when I get to Heaven to personally thank you. May he also allow my father to find you and shake your hand now to say thank you; for America, and for those who love you.

With respect, and the best salute a civilian can muster for you, Sir

Curt Carter
