I was there
We had set up a perimeter at dusk and the lt. called in for the regular 105 artillery. The first round hit in our perimeter and killed 4, wounding about a dozen. The Army told us the maps were off.

June and July always hits me hard, even after all these years!!! The four young soldiers that lost their lives on June 7 and June 8 ( The fourth that passed away the following day due to his injuries and is often forgotten by those that was not with the 3/21!) is always on my mind and in my heart!!! I was with D Co. 3/21 at that time, but many times when A Co. and D Co. was in the rear area taking a break from the bush we would visit and get together playing guitars and acting like the young people we really were! Please say a prayer and never forget these four young infantrymen!!!

Remembering An American Hero
Dear SP4 Manuel Anselmo Fernandez, sir
As an American, I would like to thank you for your service and for your sacrifice made on behalf of our wonderful country. The youth of today could gain much by learning of heroes such as yourself, men and women whose courage and heart can never be questioned.
May God allow you to read this, and may He allow me to someday shake your hand when I get to Heaven to personally thank you. May he also allow my father to find you and shake your hand now to say thank you; for America, and for those who love you.
With respect, Sir
Curt Carter

Misadventure (Friendly Fire)
SP4 Manuel A. Fernandez, SGT John H. Brock, and SGT Phillip R. Duff served with A Company, 3rd Battalion, 21st Infantry, 196th Infantry Brigade. On July 7, 1972, their unit was on a ground patrol in Quang Nam Province when an artillery round fired by a friendly force landed in the area, killing all three soldiers.
