THANK YOU

Dear PFC Whitney Ferguson,
Thank you for your service as a Field Artillery Basic with the 1st Cavalry. It is Labor Day weekend, and we remember you all. It has been too long, and it's about time for us all to acknowledge the sacrifices of those like you who answered our nation's call. Please watch over America, it stills needs your strength, courage and faithfulness. Rest in peace with the angels.

Whitney Ferguson

“Whitney Ferguson”

You are perhaps no more than a remembered image to me;
The sun flickered across your face
Between shadows of green leaves blowing.
You are or have become a whisper of wind;
A quiet rustling across the years.
So many others must remember you, now.
My tears reflect the heartache of war,
Sorry that we are so helpless
To end the sacrifice.
I remember something pure in your gaze,
But I was just a kid then, and a young man
When I read you were killed there.
Today there was a whispering in the wind,
A quiet, gentle rustling in the dry, fallen leaves.
And as once again the dark days of winter draw near,
I pray we can withstand the blind cold winds that threaten,
And that we will not waste our sons and daughters
in some sorry effort to keep the oil flowing

Whitney Ferguson was a friend of mine when we bothe were caddies at ERCC. This poem was written around the time our country was considering going to war with Iraq and the last line was changed today from "in some effort to stay warm..."

Thank You

Fallen Soldier,
I am posting remembrances for valiant men who perished during the Vietnam War as part of the Gridley High School Posting Project. I don’t think I will ever be able to comprehend the tremendous sacrifices that you gave in service of our country. I can only thank you with all my heart for your courage and dedication to the cause of liberty. May you rest in peace.

Gratefully,
Joel Campbell
