My father’s best friend.

Fergie and my father, Lorenz F. Wustner (ret. Col. USAF, deceased October 2014) were best friends from the time they met in 1954 at England AFB, LA. They flew training missions together and hung out at the Officer’s Club together after work. Their eventual wives were both USAF nurses (Fergie’s wife Gracie, and my mother Pat) and the two couples spent a lot of time partying together. My dad was devastated when he learned he had been shot down and was MIA. My dad was lucky - he flew 345 missions total but came home in one piece after each of his two TODs. My parents stayed in touch with Gracie after her husband’s death, and as a family we visited her and her kids in Milton Freewater many times over the years. Gracie passed away in 2012 at the age of 86, also preceded in death by her son and one of her daughters.

Thank You

Dear Major Wayne Ferguson,
Thank you for your service as a Tactical Aircraft Pilot (Various.) It is Labor Day weekend, and we remember you all. It has been too long, and it's about time for us all to acknowledge the sacrifices of those like you who answered our nation's call. Please watch over America, it stills needs your strength, courage and faithfulness. Rest in peace with the angels.

Remembering An American Hero

Dear Major Wayne Ardell Ferguson, sir

As an American, I would like to thank you for your service and for your sacrifice made on behalf of our wonderful country. The youth of today could gain much by learning of heroes such as yourself, men and women whose courage and heart can never be questioned.

May God allow you to read this, and may He allow me to someday shake your hand when I get to Heaven to personally thank you. May he also allow my father to find you and shake your hand now to say thank you; for America, and for those who love you.

With respect, Sir

Curt Carter
