Final Mission of SP4 Melvin J. Felton
PVT Blake D. Whitney was an artilleryman serving with C Battery, 8th Battalion, 4th Artillery, 108th Artillery Group, XXIV Corps. SP4 Melvin J. Felton was the medic in the same unit. On February 9, 1971, Whitney and Felton were on Gun Two at Lang Vei in Quang Tri Province, RVN, conducting a fire mission against a NVA artillery position during Lam Son 719 when their own position was hit by an enemy artillery round. Both Whitney and Felton were fatally injured in the incident. Three others were wounded. Felton was posthumously promoted to sergeant. [Taken from coffeltdatabase.org and vvmf.org]

Melvin was on Gun 2 when we were fireing at a NVA arty. position that was shelling us. We took a hit & when the red dust cleared 2 were KIA - 3 WIA, he like Blake never suffered as it was over in a flash via arty round. Melvin after all these year's I have not forgot you,another life thrown away over there.
