My Friend Always

Larry was my best friend in the Army. We met in basic at Fort Dix; went to AIT at Jackson; went to NCOC School and Jump School together at Benning; and we left together for Nam. I miss him every day, even after all these years. But I know his spirit is still with us all, and I thank God that he could be my friend.

I served with Larry

I was in Delta company, 1/20th Inf from Oct 68-Oct 69. Larry was my squad leader, he was a good man and I considered him my friend. If Mr or Mrs Fanella would like to contact me, I have a few pictures that were taken in the field. They are poor quality but I would scan and send them if they want.

Always there

"Larry",as we called him, lived next door to my family and was my baby sitter. He was the first "old" person to be my friend. He gave me his childhood school desk and helped me with homework. I have been a teacher for 14 years and constantly think of Larry teaching me. On the day he left for Vietnam he gave me Larry Csonka's chin strap from Syr.U. which I still have. Larry was always giving as he did with his life for our country.

Not forgotten

Larry Fanella and I were classmates of NCOC class 33 71st Co. We were in the same platoon, we were friends. Only knew him for the 12 weeks of that phase of NCOC school. He and 15 others from that class died in Vietnam. Larry was a good man and I'm sorry for his death. Why some of us died and some of us didn't, will haunt me all my life.
