THE WALL OF FACES

I was the artillery forward observer newly assigned to Jerry's company at the time of his death. He was in his last month in VN, and I was in my first month. I actually saw him step on the booby trapped 40 mm mortar round that killed him instantly. I received a PH for shrapnel wounds from the mortar round. He was a very competent leader and well respected by his men.
