Thank You

Dear SFC Gary Emmett,
Thank you for your service as a General Supply Specialist. We remember all you who gave their all. It has been too long, and it's about time for us all to acknowledge the sacrifices of those like you who answered our nation's call. Please watch over America, it stills needs your strength, courage and faithfulness. Rest in peace with the angels.

On my mind daily

I think of him everyday, and my eyes swell with tears. I always think why him and not me. If he just wouldn't have taken me off that helicopter he would be here today.

A Kind Man

In 1966 I was age 13. I got Gary's name from the USO. I wrote Gary a letter. He responded via a wonderful long letter to me. He was so kind to describe his life in Nam and to share his positive view of the world. I wrote another letter, which he received. Having heard nothing more, I sent a 3rd letter. It came back stamped "Deceased." All my life I've appreciated Gary's kindness and response to an unknown kid.
