A Remembrance

I met Jerry Ellenson when we reported for AIT training at Ft. Rucker, AL. We were assembled to form a new infantry unit. We became part of the 197th Light Infantry Brigade, 1/35 Infantry. After training at Ft. Rucker for about 10 weeks our unit joined the 197th at Ft. Benning, GA, which became our permant station.
I remember Jerry as a young, happy-go-lucky kid from North Dakota. Jerry was always good natured and always took the trials and harrassments of military training in stride. His attitude was a smile, a shrug of the shoulders and an "oh well" attitude that things would get better.
A tall, blond Swede I'll always Jerry's friendship and his good attitude in times of hardship.
I know Jerry wanted to get back home a soon as possible, just as we all did. And I'm sure Jerry served gallantly in Viet Nam.
