In loving memory of my cousin Wade

Finally, I have found this site to pay my respects to for your great sacrifice. You & I were more like brother & sister than cousins.
I missed you greatly when you moved from Dortches, NC to Virginia. But we remained close friends and kept in contact. You comforted me when as a newlywed, I saw my husband off to Vietnam in April '68. He came back to me, but you were taken. I have visited your panel on The Wall and made my rubbing of your name. I know from your testimony you left behind that I will see you again in heaven.
If any of the family see this posting, please contact me. I have lost touch over the years. I would also like to hear from any one who knew and served with Wade.

On Silver Wings

On Silver Wings
They Flew The Skies
These Brave Young Men
Who Fought And Died
When Duty Called
They went So Brave
Now Families Mourn
Beside Their Grave
Who Can Forget
What Courage They Had
Some Have,Some Did
And That's So Sad

Do not stand at my grave and weep

Do not stand at my grave and weep
I am not there; I do not sleep.
I am a thousand winds that blow,
I am the diamond glints on snow,
I am the sun on ripened grain,
I am the gentle autumn rain.
When you awaken in the morning's hush
I am the swift uplifting rush
Of quiet birds in circled flight.
I am the soft stars that shine at night.
Do not stand at my grave and cry,
I am not there; I did not die.

Flight School Friend

At Ft Rucker, Wade let me ride his motorcycle around the parking lot one day. I pulled the lever for the front barke and crashed the bike. Wade said to forget about it. Actually, he said "Butterflies!?!?"

We flew through the UH-1 qualification course in the same helicopter and through Contact 1 as well. I wondered why he had decided to go to flight school through much of that time, he was just so decent and faithful and had a beautiful fiancee.

When I went to Vietnam, Wade was already assigned to the same unit I was assigned to. He flew Hueys, I flew gunships.

Wade's loss made the war much more personal for me. I felt bad for years after, that I had left him behind and couldn't bring him home. He is never far from my mind. It took me years to grow up enough to understand what a great man Wade is.
